Newport Milling Co. - Newport, TN
Closed ....
Scouting the area with Donnabhain

We pulled into the small southern town of Newport and rounded a corner. Right in front of us was an old factory, doors wide open. The tracks in front of the building used to service it, but it looks like it's been disused for some time. A painted sign on one wall let us know it was, at one time, the Newport Milling Co. We noticed a few cop cars, state police and many residents about at the court house across the street. We parked in front and I decided to take a quick peek about the place and hope the cops didn't care too much. Though the factory was a few stories I only poked around the first, always cautious around the pigs.

I walked over the tracks and up onto the dock. Nobody in town seemed to notice this stranger. I peered in a broken window and took a picture of the sign on the outside wall so I wouldn't forget the name of the place. At the end of the dock the door was open. A quick step in, a pic and out again to see if anyone noticed. Nobody cared, must be a southern thing.

I proceeded to inspect the area, walking around the side and down back. There was a swift river just behind the building and here I noticed some fire damage as well as what looked like part of an older mill building, they must have added onto it and painted over the front. With a few big holes in the back it was easy to enter and take a few pics. The stairways led up, but I didn't have my radio with me and wouldn't want to be falling through any floors with no way to get help. Next time the roof!
