Date: 01/18/06 - Goshen Tunnel info
Hello,
I recently stumbled across a brief article (http://www.advocateweekly.com/portlet/article/html/fragments/print_arti cle.jsp?article=3353570) in a local paper about the Goshen Tunnels in Massachusetts. The article claimed that nobody has been able to figure out why they were built or by whom, or even when for that matter. Highly intrigued by the article, I immediately turned to the web where I was certain I'd find more information. To my disbelief, I found only one other article A preliminary Excavation: Shaft & Tunnels - Goshen, Massachusetts which while fascinating, still leaves many questions. Am I to assume that there simply has not been any more research done on this site since 1981? Or, am I just looking in the wrong place? Please pass on any info that you think might be helpful.

Date: 01/17/06 - Holy Land USA
I saw your pics of Holy Land in Waterbury CT. When I was driving a charter bus I managed to drive a few trips to this site with church groups from Long Island NY. If memory serves me correctly, the site was very well maintained and those who have been to Israel remarked how much a resemblance there was... Thank you for stirring up some old memories
Date: 01/06/06 - Old tower in the Lynn woods + "Dungeon Cave"
I have been both to the top of that old tower in the lynn woods, and to the bottom of what was then known as "Dungeon Rock" the cave goes downward to the left in a spiral, and ends up going deeper than one and a half stories underground, but, ends up filled with water, and junk thrown in by kids or?--There was a flight of small stairs at or near the end, which went downward to the left, and the cave could be seen going farther down, but unenterable because of the water..Maybe went down as much as 100 feet or so, it was blasted out, because the chips and drill marks can be seen on the roof..
The tower had a winding steel staircase up to the top. the staircase was quite shaky, it was supported at only top and bottom, and never touched the walls all the way up..I think maybe both were sealed by the city..because the cave had only and open steel door w/ bars, hence the name.. The tower, I think, had no door at the time, (early 1970) J.W. White
Date: 11/21/05 - Rutland Prison Camp, Rutland, MA
Hi,
I came across your website tonight after during random web searches of areas I had been familiar with, when I lived in Massachusetts. I had lived in Rutland from 1980 - 1985, and kept in touch with people from the area long after I moved to Oxford, Ma. I had visited the prison camp between 1980-1985 after hearing from about it from a fellow employee. Around 1993, there had been an article in a local historical newspaper about the camp, written by the former Police Chief's wife (and longtime Rutland resident) explaining that it had been a former camp and hospital in the 1930s, and was also a prison for Japanese Americans during WWII. There were even file photos to go along with the article.
It was so refreshing to see your photos! I was amazed when I saw that the "vegetable cellar" had been dug out completely. When I went there in the 1980s, there was a huge mountain of dirt and rubble almost completely covering the entrance. The very top had been dug out, and to get inside, you had to squeeze through. (I never went inside). All I could see in there was what looked like stone seats...long enough for someone to lie down on. This was a building that had been dug into the side of a big hill, right near the jail cells. I refer to it as the 'vegetable cellar' because that's what everyone called it, who knew of the camps. Others referred to that building as "the bunkers."
The area of the jail cells had alot of trees at that time...in fact the area where the cells and vegetable cellar was very wooded. When I returned there in 1987 to show some freinds from out of state, the entire area circling the cells and cellar had been cleared out, trees completely gone...except that the cellar entrance was still covered up. I remember exploring the woods and we too found the remnants of foundations as shown on your site. We were told that these were former garages for the motor pool. We also found alot of rusted barbed wire all over the grounds.
I'm wondering if any kind of work is being done by the town to preserve this area. It's a shame that the cells are covered in graffitti though. Thanks for those photos, it was great to see them ! I've been in Texas for three years now and miss New England very much. I thank you again for your photos of the prison camp.
Most sincerely,
Mina - Wylie, Texas
Date: 11/17/05 - creepies?
hello, Im interested in exploring the creepies, but dont know where to look. Any direction you could give me would be appreciated. I did a lot of exploring when I lived near detroit in all of the abandoned buildings in the city. obviosley thats not the case in a prosperous city like boston. Im 30 yrs old construction worker with 3 kids so rest assured Im not some punk kid looking to go spray paint. Im merely looking for an adventure and a chance to snap some cool pics. I live right in Plymouth now. is there any other good areas that you might refer me to? have you checked the grounds of the old cordage factory in plymouth? this past summer a friend and I went looking for the old army encampment at the scusset beach state park at the mouth of the cape cod canal. didnt find anything, but we were pretty twisted around and lost before too long. drop me an email if you get a moment. my name is pete. Ive been checking out your website for the past few hours and Im excited to go check out some areas before it gets to snowing. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

Date: 11/11/05 - Photo of cave door
Dear donnabhain,
I am a composer and writer and am currently working on a semifictional book entitled "An Incomplete History of the Art of Funerary Violin" for publication by Overlook Books. I am very interested in using the image of the cave door from this site in the book and was wondering if it would be possible to get permission to use the image from you, or if you have details of who the copyright holders are for me to approach them. I look forward to hearing from you.
