Fort Warren, MA

Fort Warren was built between 1833 and 1861 on George's Island in Boston Harbor. Named after Dr. Joseph Warren, who was killed at the battle of Bunker Hill, it was not only a fort but also a prisoner of war camp during the Civil War.

It operated through the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and both World Wars. During the second World War it was a mine control center for Boston Harbor, the mines were stored in a building which is today used as the park headquarters.
