Rutland Prison Camp

It's on an old dirt road called Prison Camp Road. There's not much info availible online about it. One story is that it held prisoners during the civil war, even Johnny Rebel himself. Another story is that it was just a state prison. Until we get more info all we can say is that the remaining building is of a military style matching forts from the 1800s with small cells with arched ceilings. There are many foundations in the immediate area and many mentions state there was a "prison camp and hospital" in the area.

We asked a local where to find the unmarked "Prison Camp Road", he pointed down a dirt road with a sign that said, "No ATVs". We drove down it. We asked a hunter if he had seen any ruins, nope. We drove around the woods and finally came upon a foundation, almost across the road from the hunter. We noticed a building which looked like it might have been used for storage, after a quick inspection we figured we could fit a car inside it, and that's just what we did. Closer to the road was the remains of a building. Examing it it seemed to be at least two stories tall, at one time, made of stone and plaster. The bottom floor had six small chambers with arched ceilings, the doors long gone and the walls covered with spray paint. Up another trail we found more foundations. More info will be posted as it becomes availible.
